How to explain unemployment to kids?
How does unemployment affect children!

Video Credit: FRESBERG Educational Cartoon Videos
Hi there!

While researching about my Social Studies project on African countries' economy, I came across this very interesting FRESBERG Educational Cartoon Videos Channel.

In one of the video, it has addressed unemployment whereLee (a child) finds out his dad might lose his job & Mr. Earl (an elder) talks to him about kids and how they can help their parents during these tough times.

It is really educational watching videos on this channel.

Please share with me in the comment section below if you have subscribed to any such educational channel.

What would be my ideal party?

Blog Post Credit: Alicia
I love parties! It is so fun hanging out with friends, playing games and seeing all the gifts people got. I have lots of ideas when it comes to parties so I chose Alicia’s post about “What would be your ideal party?”

My ideal party would be in a garden so we would have space to run and play. It would be in the evening so people don’t have to go anywhere later and they would stay for a very long time. There would be no theme so people would dress the way they like.
Picture
Decorations
I would put blue balloons on trees and fence. The utensils will have a light blue ribbon around them and there won’t be any table cloth. There would just be some fake cacti on the table. The party will have relaxing music and lanterns hanging over the trees.
Picture

Foods and drinks
I would want to serve hotdogs, BBQ, pizza and fries. Drinks will be lemonade, ice tea and coke. Of course there will be ice cream to wash everything down.
Picture

Gift bags
There will be chocolate candies, temporary tattoos, and some funny jokes or a magazine in the gift bags. It would be a small white bag with the guests name on it.
Picture

Games
There would be Corn Hole, a game where people try to throw beanbags into a hole, Selfie Booth, where people can take selfies with different backgrounds, Dancing, everyone knows dancing is the best part of a party.

That is what my ideal party looks like. Comment down below if you want your ideal party to be indoors or outdoors.

Coggle

Blog Post Credit: Mai Thao
Picture
Image created by me using Coggle
How do you make a perfect essay? Having good ideas of course but a pile of ideas jumbled together can’t make a great essay. That’s why you need a mind map.

We use to draw our mind map on paper which sometimes used to be really messy if you were to write essay almost every day like me. Then our teacher introduced to us Coggle.

What is Coggle? Well, Coggle is an online application that allows you to make mind maps and save them on cloud.

To sign up just fill in your email, name, birth date… simple right?

Then login and it is very easy to use after a few minutes of clicking randomly.

But here is how to use it if you don’t want to waste your time.

To create a new mind map click on the “Create Diagram” on the top left of the screen.

Then put in your title.

Drag your cursor on the title box and click on the plus sign. One branch will appear.

To change color, you click on the branch. You can even change the font, size and color of the text.

If you are using an iPad you can even put emoji in it.

This is the 21st century. Almost everything is done in computer now.

There are even applications to make a timeline or design your own avatar.

Check out the link below that will bring you straight to Coggle home page.

Should the government invest more in environmental protection?

Blog Post Credit: Lois
Picture
Hello and welcome back to my post.

This week’s activity is to go to other blogs and answer the questions that the author left. There is this one post from Lois that is about health and we all know that health is very important, you can’t do anything if you don’t have good health.

The question from the author is “Should the government invest more in environmental protection?”

My answer is yes. Earth is facing lots of problems like pollution, climate change and natural resources disappearing. This is all because of us, so our leaders should be using their power to reduce it.

Do you know that globally, 9 million people died in 2015 due to air pollution.

Governments should protect their citizens from diseases and give them clean water, fresh air and none toxic food to eat. Just imagine your vegetables are being planted in bad soil and with dirty water. You could get lots of sickness if you eat those plants.

In conclusion, we should vote for people who will protect us and give us benefit to be our government. That means they have to use their power to protect the environment we are in.

School Uniforms - Yes or No?

Picture
I took the image by myself.
Should schools have uniform or not? It has been a topic of debate in schools everywhere. We also had a class debate on this topic a few days back. The points I presented in favor of the topic are listed below:

In my opinion I think schools should have uniform and there are lots of reasons for that.

Uniforms help students get easily recognized.

They keep students stay focused on their education not their clothes.

They enhances school pride, unity and community spirit.

They help you keep more disciplined.

They help you get ready for school fast in the morning.

They help you get spotted easily in outside school tours.

And they also help you save money that you will be spending on buying clothes for school every other month.

To those who say 'No' to uniforms, I would say that school uniforms reduce peer pressure and bullying and they also help parents save time and money. How? You will be spending a lot of time on buying presentable (or expensive) clothes. Of course everybody wants to look nice, so you will be dressing yourself the best way you can. But for poor kids who can’t afford nice clothes, they will get bullied wearing the same outfit again and again. While uniforms look all the same. Also you won’t waste your time, energy, and money going for school clothes shopping. You just need to buy two-three pairs of uniforms and you’re good for the rest of the year. There are even some schools that give you free uniforms.

To those who say that it takes away students' right to free expression, I would say that you can express yourself through many other ways like your personality traits.

In conclusion I would say, I prefer uniform. They are comfortable, inexpensive and easy to wear. You can just show off your wardrobe after school if you want.

Please comment what do you guys think.

Vietnamese Traditional Game - 'O An Quan'

Created by me using PowerPoint
Hàng trầu hàng cau
Là hàng con gái
Hàng bánh hàng trái
Là hàng bà già
Hàng hương hàng hoa
Là hàng cúng Phật.
You might be confused what is this language up there. Well this is a Vietnamese poem/song kids sing while playing a game called ‘O An Quan (O Anh Whan).’ 'O An Quan' is a Vietnamese traditional game that I play with my friends.

No one knows who invented 'O An Quan'. We only know that it is inspired by a game called Mancala which was believed to be originated in Sumeria a part of Mesopotamia (now known as Iraq.) But O An Quan is smaller and easier to carry, this game was to be played on rice fields when farmers were having their break. These days kid everywhere play it.

Rules of 'O An Quan' are very simple. There are two player needed for the game. The board is on the picture above and on each square there would be five beads. The two players will do rock paper scissors and the winner will go first. He/she will pick up the beads in any squares on their side and drop the beads in one direction (drop one bead for each square) until there is no more bead left. If next to the last place you drop is another square with beads on it then take those beads and go just like how I mentioned. If next to you is the semicircle then it will be the next player's turn. If next to you is an empty box then tap that box and take all the beads in the next box out of the game because it is yours now. The game will end when the two rulers get eaten. You will get all the beads on your side of the board and start counting all of them. Be sure that one bead equals one point and the ruler is equal to ten points.

I promise you, when you get the hang of it, you will love it! Since this is a Vietnamese game you may not find it in shops but you can make it yourself by cutting a piece of paper into a board and use pebbles to play. In my point of view 'O An Quan' is easy to learn, no need for lots of players, but you can have loads of fun.

If I were the Principal of AITIS for one week

Picture
I used Wordart.com to create this image.
There is one question I always ask myself. Does a principal have a hard job? It seems easy to me because keeping a school disciplined with a bunch of teachers helping doesn’t look very hard right? Here is how I imagined my school would be if I were the principal.

I think snack times are not important because it is just 1 hour and 30 minutes after you had breakfast. I will reduce the 20 minutes time we have for snack to 10 minutes and give an extra 30 minutes for lunch time. My normal lunch time is from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm which is too less for me and some other people because some people think lunch time is for playing with friends. Sometimes I see kids eat their lunch in 5 minutes and run to our school’s pavilion to play soccer. All of us know rushing yourself to eat is an unhealthy thing to do.

I would make Friday an optional no uniform day but of course with a dress code. Like sleeve shirts and knee length pants. For the artistic students, I will open an art club where student would think of art projects to make the school look nicer. I will not let the students wear accessories like earrings and rings, no cell phones either because the students who don’t have these things will feel embarrassed and shy.

I would let school start at 8:30 because for a night owl students like me, it is very hard to focus in class when you are still feeling sleepy. Certainly the school hours will be from 8:30 to 3:15 not 2:45. I would assign more responsibility to the students by making them clean their own classrooms. Every month I will come to each classroom and teach for one class period.

I will have to be a strict principal if I want the students to respect everyone but I am pretty sure I will turn the school into a chaos if I become a principal right away. I guess I shall finish the required qualification first and get some experience.

What is your opinion? Please write i the comment section below.

How I Became AITIS 2017-18 Student Council President
Picture
Obama, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington all once were presidents of the United States of America. I wish I could be important like them so I could think of good things for everybody. Then a week after school started I got a chance to run for president at my school.

I still remember, it was after snack time, some of my friends were talking about the election. That day I spent lot of time thinking about the election, should I join or not. “Anyway, it is my last year here and if I don’t join I won’t have another chance to join,” I thought. So the next day I was running for president. Only a few of my classmate knew I was running for president, which wasn’t good. People make up their mind who to vote for long before the voting day. I decided to go talk to the students. That snack time, I gathered all my courage and went around the school asking people what do they want more in school. Most of the student promised they’ll vote for me but some just smiled and walked away. Then the pre- election rolled up. I was very nervous because most six graders were voting for Pinky, also a candidate for president, but looking on the bright side lots of students in grade five liked me. After lunchtime, there was a poster on the bulletin board announcing the candidates, I was so happy I was officially running for president. On the weekend, I spent lots of time finishing my poster and my speech.

After preparing for days, that day finally came. The day where all the candidates went classroom to classroom telling their speeches. The president was up first. Pinky went up first. When it was my turn, I felt like my heart was not working but after the speech, I wished I could do it again. In some classrooms, people cheered for me but in some people cheered for Pinky. When it was all over, I felt relieved and proud. A few days later, our class-counseling teacher called me and the other candidates. We were in a small office when she announced it: treasurer, sectary, representative, reporter, vice president and lastly president, when she announced it my heart skipped a beat. She called me. It was one of the happiest day in my life. I was the new president of AITIS.

I have much more responsibility and work but I’m going to try my best to be a good president.

Watching Movies at Home VS  Cinema
(Please Click the Button Below to Vote)
View my profile on LinkedIn
Picture

I love watching movies especially Disney ones. Finding Dory, Up, and Home are all great movies I have seen, but where should we watch them, at the cinema or at home? Let’s compare the two places and see which one is better.

You can wear comfortable clothes like PJs when you are at home.
Also you don’t need to waste time getting to the cinema, you can just open your TV or computer and watch it.
You can watch it as many times as you want and have breaks whenever you like.
The main reason why some people don’t go to cinema is because they don’t have to pay any money if they watch it at home.

However, watching movies at home doesn't give you that good quality. In the theater the screen is biggerr, the sound is louder and the picture is clearer.
Cinemas also have lots of food which is convenient when you are hungry in the middle of a film.
You can also watch a movie as soon as it comes out because it would take weeks or even months before it will be uploaded on youtube.
Cinema tickets are expensive but considering its benefits it's not that much.

There is one thing though, that I really don't like about cinema which is the ads they show before the movie starts, it will take a minimum of ten minutes.

I would prefer watching movies at home but I won’t stop going to the cinema either to watch some of my favorite films.
