How I Became AITIS 2017-18 Student Council President Image Credit: Pixabay Obama, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington all once were presidents of the United States of America. I wish I could be important like them so I could think of good things for everybody. Then a week after school started I got a chance to run for president at my school.
I still remember, it was after snack time, some of my friends were talking about the election. That day I spent lot of time thinking about the election, should I join or not. “Anyway, it is my last year here and if I don’t join I won’t have another chance to join,” I thought. So the next day I was running for president. Only a few of my classmate knew I was running for president, which wasn’t good. People make up their mind who to vote for long before the voting day. I decided to go talk to the students. That snack time, I gathered all my courage and went around the school asking people what do they want more in school. Most of the student promised they’ll vote for me but some just smiled and walked away. Then the pre- election rolled up. I was very nervous because most six graders were voting for Pinky, also a candidate for president, but looking on the bright side lots of students in grade five liked me. After lunchtime, there was a poster on the bulletin board announcing the candidates, I was so happy I was officially running for president. On the weekend, I spent lots of time finishing my poster and my speech. After preparing for days, that day finally came. The day where all the candidates went classroom to classroom telling their speeches. The president was up first. Pinky went up first. When it was my turn, I felt like my heart was not working but after the speech, I wished I could do it again. In some classrooms, people cheered for me but in some people cheered for Pinky. When it was all over, I felt relieved and proud. A few days later, our class-counseling teacher called me and the other candidates. We were in a small office when she announced it: treasurer, sectary, representative, reporter, vice president and lastly president, when she announced it my heart skipped a beat. She called me. It was one of the happiest day in my life. I was the new president of AITIS. I have much more responsibility and work but I’m going to try my best to be a good president.
