Q: What have you enjoyed about commenting?
A:I love sharing my experience and knowledge about different topics with other people.

Q:What is annoying about commenting?
A:I don’t get annoyed by wrong grammar or spelling mistakes that much but I can’t stand when people put abbreviations (e.g., You to U).

Q:How have you found interesting posts to comment on?
A:I usually go to #17stubc Flipboard.com and read anything with a catchy title or something that I have some knowledge about.

Q:Are you getting quality comments? Why or why not?

A: I do get quality comments on my posts very often. Here are a few:
From Amirah
Hello Van Anh, my name is Amirah. I really liked how you put your opinion, it really pulled me in as a reader. I also really liked the title that also pulled me in as a French fries lover myself. You also sited your resources which is great as well. I wish you would have added more information on the origin of French fries. I wonder is this all Nook's work like you said in the title or is it some of your work as well.
From Francois
Hello Van Anh, What a very well thought out part. I'd love to hear a story about it if you ever execute your master party plan. Personally I like indoor parties with outdoor space like a pool or something.
From Nate
Hi, In my opinion, I would rather have schools not make uniforms mandatory because I like to express myself through my clothes.

"French Fries - Yum"
Inspired by Nook's Post

Picture

I love French fries! I will eat it every day if I could. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, dipped in ketchup. Just imagine! All I knew about French fries was that they originated in France and they taste good until I came across this post that blew my mind.

According to Nook’s post, The name French fry is not French. The origins of the French fry have been traced back to Belgium, where historians claim potatoes were being fried in the late 1600s. According to the Belgian lore, poor villagers ate small fried fish they caught in the river. During the winter season, the river would freeze over, making fishing impossible and forcing the villagers to find other sources of food to eat. So they planted potatoes, slicing and frying it much in the same way they prepared the fish. And just like that, the earliest French fries were born. American soldiers stationed in Belgium were first introduced to French fries during World War I. As the official language of the Belgian army was French, soldiers nicknamed the delicious fried potatoes “French fries.” The name stuck, and decades later we’re still giving credit to the wrong country. Mind blowing right? I did some more research on French fries and found some facts.
  • French fries were introduced to USA by President Thomas Jefferson in 1801. (Resource)
  • 7% of French fries grown in the USA are sent to McDonald’s. (Resource)
  • July 13th is National French Fries Day. (Resource)
  • French fries are so popular that there is a whole museum dedicated to French fries, it is called Friet Museum. It is located in Belgium. (Resource)

French fries are one of my favorite food. I don’t know how the world would be like without French fries. Please comment down below how often you eat French fries.

Hunger

What do you do when you are hungry?

Most people go to their fridge and grab anything they want. But have you ever thought of people who skipped a day without food?

Liberia is one of the country our class did a project about. It is on the West African coast that is home to roughly 4.5 million people. Due to a recent civil war and outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, the country has become vulnerable to poverty and hunger.

“While the people of Liberia continue to face obstacles as they rebuild their country’s economy, continued international support and investment in education and infrastructure could help stabilize the country and reduce hunger”, ‘The Borgen Project' says.

Unfortunately, like Liberia, many African countries are suffering from these issues. For me, thinking of helping them as a student is impractical but opening up my purse and donating some money to the poor in my community is practical.

What about you?

Watch the video below to learn ways to end this problem.

How does unemployment affect children!

Video Credit: FRESBERG Educational Cartoon Videos
Hi there!

While researching about my Social Studies project on African countries' economy, I came across this very interesting FRESBERG Educational Cartoon Videos Channel.

In one of the video, it has addressed unemployment whereLee (a child) finds out his dad might lose his job & Mr. Earl (an elder) talks to him about kids and how they can help their parents during these tough times.

It is really educational watching videos on this channel.

Please share with me in the comment section below if you have subscribed to any such educational channel.

What would be my ideal party?

Blog Post Credit: Alicia
I love parties! It is so fun hanging out with friends, playing games and seeing all the gifts people got. I have lots of ideas when it comes to parties so I chose Alicia’s post about “What would be your ideal party?”

My ideal party would be in a garden so we would have space to run and play. It would be in the evening so people don’t have to go anywhere later and they would stay for a very long time. There would be no theme so people would dress the way they like.
Picture
Decorations
I would put blue balloons on trees and fence. The utensils will have a light blue ribbon around them and there won’t be any table cloth. There would just be some fake cacti on the table. The party will have relaxing music and lanterns hanging over the trees.
Picture

Foods and drinks
I would want to serve hotdogs, BBQ, pizza and fries. Drinks will be lemonade, ice tea and coke. Of course there will be ice cream to wash everything down.
Picture

Gift bags
There will be chocolate candies, temporary tattoos, and some funny jokes or a magazine in the gift bags. It would be a small white bag with the guests name on it.

Games
There would be Corn Hole, a game where people try to throw beanbags into a hole, Selfie Booth, where people can take selfies with different backgrounds, Dancing, everyone knows dancing is the best part of a party.

That is what my ideal party looks like. Comment down below if you want your ideal party to be indoors or outdoors.

Coggle

Blog Post Credit: Mai Thao

Image created by me using Coggle
How do you make a perfect essay? Having good ideas of course but a pile of ideas jumbled together can’t make a great essay. That’s why you need a mind map.

We use to draw our mind map on paper which sometimes used to be really messy if you were to write essay almost every day like me. Then our teacher introduced to us Coggle.

What is Coggle? Well, Coggle is an online application that allows you to make mind maps and save them on cloud.

To sign up just fill in your email, name, birth date… simple right?

Then login and it is very easy to use after a few minutes of clicking randomly.

But here is how to use it if you don’t want to waste your time.

To create a new mind map click on the “Create Diagram” on the top left of the screen.

Then put in your title.

Drag your cursor on the title box and click on the plus sign. One branch will appear.

To change color, you click on the branch. You can even change the font, size and color of the text.

If you are using an iPad you can even put emoji in it.

This is the 21st century. Almost everything is done in computer now.

There are even applications to make a timeline or design your own avatar.

Check out the link below that will bring you straight to Coggle home page.

Should the government invest more in environmental protection?

Blog Post Credit: Lois
Picture
Hello and welcome back to my post.

This week’s activity is to go to other blogs and answer the questions that the author left. There is this one post from Lois that is about health and we all know that health is very important, you can’t do anything if you don’t have good health.

The question from the author is “Should the government invest more in environmental protection?”

My answer is yes. Earth is facing lots of problems like pollution, climate change and natural resources disappearing. This is all because of us, so our leaders should be using their power to reduce it.

Do you know that globally, 9 million people died in 2015 due to air pollution.

Governments should protect their citizens from diseases and give them clean water, fresh air and none toxic food to eat. Just imagine your vegetables are being planted in bad soil and with dirty water. You could get lots of sickness if you eat those plants.

In conclusion, we should vote for people who will protect us and give us benefit to be our government. That means they have to use their power to protect the environment we are in.

School Uniforms - Yes or No?

Picture
I took the image by myself.
Should schools have uniform or not? It has been a topic of debate in schools everywhere. We also had a class debate on this topic a few days back. The points I presented in favor of the topic are listed below:

In my opinion I think schools should have uniform and there are lots of reasons for that.

Uniforms help students get easily recognized.

They keep students stay focused on their education not their clothes.

They enhances school pride, unity and community spirit.

They help you keep more disciplined.

They help you get ready for school fast in the morning.

They help you get spotted easily in outside school tours.

And they also help you save money that you will be spending on buying clothes for school every other month.

To those who say 'No' to uniforms, I would say that school uniforms reduce peer pressure and bullying and they also help parents save time and money. How? You will be spending a lot of time on buying presentable (or expensive) clothes. Of course everybody wants to look nice, so you will be dressing yourself the best way you can. But for poor kids who can’t afford nice clothes, they will get bullied wearing the same outfit again and again. While uniforms look all the same. Also you won’t waste your time, energy, and money going for school clothes shopping. You just need to buy two-three pairs of uniforms and you’re good for the rest of the year. There are even some schools that give you free uniforms.

To those who say that it takes away students' right to free expression, I would say that you can express yourself through many other ways like your personality traits.

In conclusion I would say, I prefer uniform. They are comfortable, inexpensive and easy to wear. You can just show off your wardrobe after school if you want.

Please comment what do you guys think.
