Picture
Image Created by me using Word Art
The most interesting challenge for you
My favorite challenge was week 6 ‘Visiting others’. The reason I likeed week 6 is because I love reading other people’s posts and share what I know in my blog.

How often you visited other blogs and left comments
I think I have visited about 8 blogs and left comments on all of them. About 5 of my comments got a reply back.

Do you read the challenge flipboard magazine ?
I always read flipboard magazine to find good posts and to see if my post got published in it or not.

A PMI or plus/minus/interesting point about the challenge
I just want the Blogging Challenge to have more free choice challenges. I don’t want to minus anything because I think it is very good already.

The most important thing you learned while doing the challenge
The Blogging Challenge has been a great opportunity for me to share my ideas with people and improve my writing skills. Because of BC I have learned so many more applications.

My Favorite Blog
Picture
The first post I read from Nate's blog.
I love reading other people’s blog. There are lots of interesting blogs but my favorite one is Nate’s Blog.
Nate’s Blog is very fun to read. I love reading and commenting on his posts and he always replies to my comments. His posts are short and you don't feel bored while reading them.
How I came to know about Nate’s Blog? I was looking for some nice posts to read in flipboard magazine and I came across this post ‘My first time snowboarding.’ It was short and simple which made it very easy to read. I left a comment on Nate’s post and the next day he commented on one of my post, so I started reading more of his posts and commenting on them. These are some of my favorite posts from Nate:
  • My first time snowboarding
  • My viral comic scrip
  • My image sentence

Inventions that changed the World

We have invented lots of things like self-driving cars, medicines and rockets. But it all started thousands of years ago when some of the most basic things helped us build what we have now. In this essay I am going to list down some inventions that have changed the world.

The wheel - The wheel was invented by the Mesopotamians in 3500 BC. It was just made out of wood with a hole in the middle. Mesopotamians had built the wheel to put on chariots for war. From time to time, people thought of more uses for the wheel, like turning it to farming tools. Thanks to the wheel, humans can transport and trade goods easily. Just look around you, there are wheels everywhere, on cars, bikes, trucks…

The compass- Compass was invented by Chinese around 1050 BC. It was first made of lodestone and iron ore. You may think compasses are useless now because we have GPS but just think a few thousand years back. You would get lost in an instant in sea if you didn’t use a compass.

Fire - Fire marked a revolution in the page of history. The earliest evidence of fire is about 1.9 million years ago. If someone did not accidentally create fire we would still be eating raw food. Fire is everything, it helped us stay warm, cook food and a lot more.
Some of the simplest things you use every day has helped human kind to grow over thousands of years.

Please comment down below if you have ever invented or want to invent something.

Q: What have you enjoyed about commenting?
A:I love sharing my experience and knowledge about different topics with other people.

Q:What is annoying about commenting?
A:I don’t get annoyed by wrong grammar or spelling mistakes that much but I can’t stand when people put abbreviations (e.g., You to U).

Q:How have you found interesting posts to comment on?
A:I usually go to #17stubc Flipboard.com and read anything with a catchy title or something that I have some knowledge about.

Q:Are you getting quality comments? Why or why not?

A: I do get quality comments on my posts very often. Here are a few:
From Amirah
Hello Van Anh, my name is Amirah. I really liked how you put your opinion, it really pulled me in as a reader. I also really liked the title that also pulled me in as a French fries lover myself. You also sited your resources which is great as well. I wish you would have added more information on the origin of French fries. I wonder is this all Nook's work like you said in the title or is it some of your work as well.
From Francois
Hello Van Anh, What a very well thought out part. I'd love to hear a story about it if you ever execute your master party plan. Personally I like indoor parties with outdoor space like a pool or something.
From Nate
Hi, In my opinion, I would rather have schools not make uniforms mandatory because I like to express myself through my clothes.

"French Fries - Yum"
Inspired by Nook's Post

Picture

I love French fries! I will eat it every day if I could. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, dipped in ketchup. Just imagine! All I knew about French fries was that they originated in France and they taste good until I came across this post that blew my mind.

According to Nook’s post, The name French fry is not French. The origins of the French fry have been traced back to Belgium, where historians claim potatoes were being fried in the late 1600s. According to the Belgian lore, poor villagers ate small fried fish they caught in the river. During the winter season, the river would freeze over, making fishing impossible and forcing the villagers to find other sources of food to eat. So they planted potatoes, slicing and frying it much in the same way they prepared the fish. And just like that, the earliest French fries were born. American soldiers stationed in Belgium were first introduced to French fries during World War I. As the official language of the Belgian army was French, soldiers nicknamed the delicious fried potatoes “French fries.” The name stuck, and decades later we’re still giving credit to the wrong country. Mind blowing right? I did some more research on French fries and found some facts.
  • French fries were introduced to USA by President Thomas Jefferson in 1801. (Resource)
  • 7% of French fries grown in the USA are sent to McDonald’s. (Resource)
  • July 13th is National French Fries Day. (Resource)
  • French fries are so popular that there is a whole museum dedicated to French fries, it is called Friet Museum. It is located in Belgium. (Resource)

French fries are one of my favorite food. I don’t know how the world would be like without French fries. Please comment down below how often you eat French fries.

Hunger

What do you do when you are hungry?

Most people go to their fridge and grab anything they want. But have you ever thought of people who skipped a day without food?

Liberia is one of the country our class did a project about. It is on the West African coast that is home to roughly 4.5 million people. Due to a recent civil war and outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, the country has become vulnerable to poverty and hunger.

“While the people of Liberia continue to face obstacles as they rebuild their country’s economy, continued international support and investment in education and infrastructure could help stabilize the country and reduce hunger”, ‘The Borgen Project' says.

Unfortunately, like Liberia, many African countries are suffering from these issues. For me, thinking of helping them as a student is impractical but opening up my purse and donating some money to the poor in my community is practical.

What about you?

Watch the video below to learn ways to end this problem.
